Our Volunteers

Rebuilding Together is about hard-working, compassionate people helping other people.

Our volunteers are the backbone of our mission. The investment of your time and talents makes a difference. We have opportunities for you to make a long-lasting impact on the lives of low-income homeowners by repairing their homes and revitalizing their communities.

House Captain

House Captains are responsible for initiating and maintaining contact with the homeowner and volunteers and for coordinating with the homeowner and volunteers to ensure a successful Rebuilding Day. The House Captain is responsible for organizing and executing the planning and preparation of Rebuilding Day and overseeing the completion of the project.

House Captains are the primary link to homeowners before workday and have the responsibility of assuring their satisfaction.  They need patience and the ability to deal with sometimes uncertain and skeptical elderly homeowners.  The House Captain is responsible for recruiting, organizing and informing volunteers. Home rehabilitation is usually completed over several weeks, but Rebuilding Together is primarily accomplished in one day.  The difference is planning and teamwork.  Good preparation will help make the day go smoothly.

Skilled Trades Volunteer

We rely on skilled trade professional volunteers to serve as leaders in our rebuilding efforts, providing materials and technical know-how with everything from roofing to plumbing, assessment to planning. Your time and skills keep homeowners safe and healthy in their homes. Experienced skilled trades volunteers who have participated on Rebuilding Together projects often serve as house captains.

Work Site Volunteer

Under the direction of a house captain and in some cases the supervision of a skilled trade volunteer, the work site volunteer may perform a variety of tasks such as picking up supplies, preparing the work site, scraping and painting, nailing boards, gluing, assembling furniture, repairing wallpaper, hanging doors, tacking down carpet, changing light bulbs, adding safety rails, cleaning up the work site. Do these tasks sound familiar? These are the same types of tasks that many of us do around our own homes.

Administrative Volunteer

Organization and administrative management skills are a vital part of every organization. Administrative volunteers assist in a variety of ways from making website updates, coordinating meeting dates, to helping house captains track volunteers and coordinate paperwork.
