Each year on the last Saturday of April, Rebuilding Together Frederick County (RTFC) participates in National Rebuilding Day (NRD) through the efforts of volunteer groups from all of Frederick County. Some of the projects require preparatory work before NRD—one reason April is referred to as National Rebuilding Month—and occasionally some finish work takes place after Rebuilding Day. Each project typically involves a local volunteer group from a church, community organization, or a business. A House Captain leads the project, doing the initial evaluation of the project site and planning the materials and labor needed. The House Captain works with RTFC for special needs such as a wheelchair lift or for skilled trades needs not available in the group. On NRD or Project Day, the House Captain coordinates all the work so the volunteers complete the work on the project.
